Staff Profiles

Alan James - Partner. Having trained with a top 20 firm in London, Alan qualified as a Chartered Accountant in 1980. He spent some time as a manager with a seven-partner firm based in London before setting up his own practice in 1987 in Shepperton. Alan is a general practitioner dealing with all aspects of small and medium sized enterprise from business start-ups to the sale of businesses. Alan also acts as an expert witness in the valuation of businesses in disputes such as divorce. Outside the office Alan is a member of Business Network International. He is also a keen runner, and has completed the London Marathon as well as the Three Peaks Challenge.

Keith Edwards - Partner. Keith trained with a seven-partner practice based in London and qualified as a Chartered Accountant in 1991. It was whilst working at this firm that Keith and Alan met (Alan was a manager). After qualifying Alan invited Keith to work for him and in 1998 he came into partnership. Keith is also a general practitioner dealing with small and medium sized businesses. He is the firm's IT consultant, assisting clients and staff as necessary. In his spare time Keith likes reading books and listening to classical music. He is a frustrated golfer who can never find the time to get on the golf course.

Simon Dawkins - Audit/Accounts Manager. Simon joined the practice in 2000 as a trainee following the successful completion of his A levels. In 2005 he qualified as a Chartered Certified Accountant. As a qualified audit manager Simon specialises in resolving audit issues and ensuring compliance with the requirements of the Companies Act and the Financial Reporting Standards. If you have a question about the correct accounting treatment of any item or transaction within your business, Simon would be more than happy to resolve this for you. Out of the office, Simon is a keen squash player and a Chelsea FC supporter. He has a passion for live music and can regularly be found at a music festival or unwinding in one of London's live music venues.

Elaine King - Business Support Manager. Elaine joined our team in 1993 as our office administrator. Since then her duties have expanded to include running payroll and bookkeeping services for our clients, including debt factoring reconciliations, VAT returns and CIS returns. She now manages approximately 100 payrolls. In addition to handling our administration and running these cient support services Elaine also provides training and support for clients running QuickBooks and Sage Instant/Line 50. To cope with this volume of work Elaine has two assistants.

Rachel Taylor - Audit/Accounts Semi-Senior. Rachel joined the firm in 1999 as a graduate having already gained 2 years experience in accountancy. During her time at Alan James & Co, Rachel has gained a wealth of experience in the audit and preparation of accounts for businesses of many different types and sizes and is well known and trusted by many of our long-standing clients. Rachel is currently studying for her ACCA qualification and has successfully passed many of the professional exams, including taxation, law, accounting and audit.

Samir Ahmed – Audit/Accounts Semi-Senior. We had the pleasure of adding Samir to our team in 2006. At the time of joining, he had already built up over ten year’s accounting experience, six years of which was with in a two partner practice in New Malden. Samir has quickly become a key member of staff in the audit and accounts department; being closely involved with preparing a wide range of accounts; from sole traders and partnerships to limited companies with turnovers in excess of ten million pounds. Samir has a BA (Hons) and has obtained certificates in international financial reporting, computerised accounts, financial services, and accountancy with business studies. Out of the office, Samir enjoys playing football with his family and friends.

Chris Stabler – Audit/Accounts Semi-Senior. Chris joined the practice in 2004 following his graduation from Southampton Institute with a higher national diploma in business and finance. Amongst his audit and accounts work, Chris is responsible for expertly handling the Association of Residential Letting Agency compliance audits for our letting agency clients. Out of the office, Chris is closely involved with Shepperton Cricket Club, acting as the treasurer for the club, as well as playing for the team and assisting with the re-building of the clubhouse. His experiences as treasurer of the cricket club have added real insight to his work when preparing accounts for clients such as sports clubs and other associations.

Kirnna Patel – Audit/Accounts Semi-Senior. Kirnna joined Alan James & Co in 2005 following her graduation from Oxford Brookes University with a BA (Hons) in accounting and finance. As part of our team, Kirnna has developed a solid understanding of the reporting requirements for businesses regulated by the FSA and is closely involved with the completion of the six monthly Retail Mediation Activities Returns (RMAR’s) that such business have to submit to tight deadlines. Kirnna is currently part way through the ACCA qualification and is studying hard for the next set of exams. In her spare time, she enjoys travelling and watching sports such as cricket and badminton.
